What is BE / B.Tech in Maharashtra?

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) are four-year undergraduate professional degrees that train students in applied science, mathematics, and engineering design. In Maharashtra, these programmes are offered at more than 200 colleges affiliated with AICTE-approved universities including Savitribai Phule Pune University, Mumbai University, Nagpur University, and autonomous institutions of national repute.

For international students, the Government of Maharashtra has carved out a dedicated Foreign National (FN) quota, administered by the State Common Entrance Test Cell (State CET Cell). Unlike domestic applicants, students in this category are not required to appear for JEE Mains or MHT-CET. Admission is based on the academic merit of your 10+2 (HSC) results.

The entire process — from registration and document verification to college allocation — is managed through a single online portal: fn.mahacet.org. This is the only officially authorised channel for international engineering admissions in Maharashtra.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need JEE to get into B.Tech in Maharashtra as an international student?
No. Foreign Nationals, NRI, OCI, PIO, CIWGC, and Merchant Navy students are admitted through a separate FN quota managed by the State CET Cell. JEE Main and MHT-CET are not required. Admission is based on your Class 12 academic performance.
What is the minimum percentage required for BE / B.Tech admission?
You need at least 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Mathematics, and one additional qualifying subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, IT, Agriculture, etc.) in your Class 12 / HSC examination. This applies uniformly to all international student categories.
How much does it cost to apply?
The State CET Cell charges USD 50 (eligibility fee) + USD 1,150 (processing fee) = USD 1,200 total through the fn.mahacet.org portal. This fee is non-refundable. College tuition fees are separate and paid to the institution directly after seat allocation.
Can I pay the application fee in my local currency?
Yes. The CCAvenue payment gateway on fn.mahacet.org supports foreign currency conversion. You can pay using international debit or credit cards. The equivalent amount in your currency will be calculated at the prevailing exchange rate.
I studied A-Levels / IB / American High School — am I eligible?
Yes, provided your qualification is recognised as equivalent to the Indian Class 12 (HSC) examination and you have studied Physics and Mathematics. If your qualifications are from outside India, you will need an AIU (Association of Indian Universities) Eligibility Certificate, which should be submitted along with your application.
Which engineering branches are available for international students?
Availability varies by college, but common specialisations include Computer Engineering, IT, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, AI & ML, Data Science, Robotics, Chemical Engineering, and more. You can state your preference during the application, and allocation is based on merit and seat availability.
Do I need a student visa to study B.Tech in Maharashtra?
Yes, if you are a Foreign National. Once you receive your official admission letter from the State CET Cell and the college, you should apply for a Student Visa (Category: Student, S) at the Indian Embassy or High Commission in your country. NRI, OCI, and PIO students may have different visa requirements based on their existing documentation.
What helpline can I contact for application support?
The State CET Cell helpline is available Monday to Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM IST: +91-9076000348 or +91-8879082178. You can also email student@mahacet.org. The CET Cell aims to resolve all queries within two working days.
