Course Overview
What is MBBS in Maharashtra?
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a 5.5-year undergraduate medical degree (4.5 years academic + 1 year compulsory internship). It is the foundational medical qualification in India, recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Medical Commission (NMC) of India.
Through fn.mahacet.org, MBBS admission is available exclusively to the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) category. Foreign Nationals, OCI, PIO, and CIWGC students are not eligible for this programme under the FN Portal. A valid NEET-UG score is mandatory for all applicants.
Maharashtra has 50+ NMC-approved medical colleges — including prestigious government institutions like Grant Medical College Mumbai, BJ Medical College Pune, and Government Medical College Nagpur — as well as top private colleges. Degrees are globally recognised by WHO, enabling graduates to pursue licensing exams worldwide (USMLE, PLAB, AMC, MCCQE).

Preparation Guide
How to Prepare Before Applying
Preparation has two parts: academic and exam readiness (course-specific), and gathering the right documents for your category. Start both at least 8–12 weeks before the fn.mahacet.org application window opens.
- 1Clear NEET-UG — this is the first requirement: NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Register at nta.ac.in. For MBBS Maharashtra, you need a valid NEET-UG score — there is no minimum cut-off published by the portal, but a competitive score improves your college options.
- 2Focus on Biology and Chemistry for NEET: NEET-UG has 180 questions: Biology (90 questions, 360 marks), Chemistry (45 questions, 180 marks), Physics (45 questions, 180 marks). Biology carries half the marks — prioritise it in your preparation.
- 3Confirm your NRI status with Indian Embassy: NRI status requires your parent/sponsor to have resided outside India for a minimum qualifying period. Get your NRI Certificate from the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate before applying.
- 4Prepare all NRI-specific documents: NRI admission requires a more detailed document set than other categories. The parent's foreign employment proof, bank statements, and NRI certificate are specific to this category.
- 5Understand Maharashtra's MBBS fee structure: Tuition fees at private MBBS colleges can range from INR 5–15 lakh per year. Confirm fees with your allotted college before making any payment decisions.
