Maharashtra is one of India's leading states for medical education, home to NMC-approved government and private medical colleges. For NRI students, MBBS in Maharashtra is accessible through the official single-window portal — fn.mahacet.org — operated by the Government of Maharashtra's State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell). MBBS through this portal is available to the NRI category only. This guide covers everything an NRI student needs to know before applying.
MBBS through fn.mahacet.org is available to the NRI category only. NEET UG is mandatory for all NRI MBBS applicants — there are no exceptions. Do not register on fn.mahacet.org until you have confirmed your NRI category eligibility and have a qualifying NEET UG score meeting the published cut-off.
What is the NRI Category?
The NRI (Non-Resident Indian) category on fn.mahacet.org applies to Indian citizens who are ordinarily residing outside India because their parent is employed abroad. The parent must hold a valid NRI Certificate issued by the Indian Embassy or Mission in their country of residence.

|---|---|---|
| Student's Passport | Valid Indian passport | Student must be an Indian citizen |
| Residence Status | Ordinarily residing outside India | Because parent is employed abroad |

| NEET UG Score | Valid NEET UG score meeting the published cut-off | Mandatory — not waived for NRI students |

Degree Recognition — What Graduates Need to Know
MBBS degrees from NMC-approved Maharashtra colleges are recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Medical Commission of India. To practise medicine in your home country after graduating, you must additionally pass that country's medical licensing examination — for example, the USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia), MDCN (Nigeria), or SLMC (Sri Lanka). This is standard globally for internationally-trained doctors.
Official Document Checklist for NRI MBBS Applicants
NRI students must submit both student documents and parent documents through fn.mahacet.org. All documents are uploaded digitally at the time of registration. Original documents are verified physically at the allocated college — only after seat allotment, after paying the college fees (Stage 3), and after reporting in person.
Part A — Student Documents
Part B — Parent Documents (Required for NRI Category)
Fees & The 3-Stage Payment Process
MBBS fees have two separate streams — the CET Cell administrative fee (paid through fn.mahacet.org) and the college tuition fee (paid directly to the allocated college). The CET Cell fee follows a 3-stage payment process.

Step-by-Step MBBS Application Process for NRI Students
The admission process through fn.mahacet.org has one critical additional step for MBBS: you must have a valid NEET UG score before you begin registration.
Appear for NEET UG and Verify Your Score Meets the Cut-Off
Register and appear for the NEET UG examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) of India. After results are declared, check the published cut-off score for the NRI quota on fn.mahacet.org. Do not begin portal registration until you confirm your NEET score qualifies. There are no exceptions to the NEET requirement for MBBS.
Confirm NRI Category at fn.mahacet.org
Visit fn.mahacet.org/category-check and confirm you apply under the NRI category. Download and review the NRI-specific document checklist — both student and parent documents are required. Only the student, a parent, or an Indian court-appointed legal guardian may file the application.
Prepare and Scan All Required Documents
Gather your Indian passport, 10th and 12th marksheets (with PCB subjects and minimum 50% aggregate), NEET UG scorecard, birth certificate, migration certificate, and passing certificate. Also gather your parent's NRI Certificate (from Indian Embassy/Mission abroad), Indian passport, visa copy, employment letter, 6-month foreign bank statement, and proof of foreign residence. Scan all documents clearly — blurry uploads cause application holds.
Register Online and Pay the USD 50 Eligibility Fee
Create your account on fn.mahacet.org and complete the registration form. Pay the USD 50 Eligibility Fee (₹4,540) through the CCAvenue payment gateway. This triggers virtual verification of your documents. The fee is non-refundable. After verification, your Provisional Eligibility Letter becomes visible in view-only mode — you cannot download it yet.
Pay the USD 1,150 Processing Fee and Enter the Merit List
Once eligible, pay the USD 1,150 Processing Fee (₹1,04,420). This unlocks the download of your Provisional Eligibility Letter, adds your name to the NRI MBBS merit list, and allows you to fill college preferences. The CET Cell allocates MBBS seats by descending NEET score order on the NRI merit list. Your Provisional Admission Letter is issued after allotment.
Pay College Fees, Apply for Student Visa, Report to College
Pay the tuition fee to your allocated medical college and collect the Provisional Admission Letter. Use this to apply for a Student Visa if required, or report directly to the college. Physical verification of all original documents happens only at the college — after you have paid the college fees and reported in person. No verification takes place at any facilitation centre or separate government office.
